Cleaning your Aluminum Siding
November 17, 2017 12:49 pmLEADING MANUFACTURERS RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING FOR THEIR PRODUCTS (Keep reading to learn more):
CLEANING
AS WITH ANY EXTERIOR SURFACE, AIR-BORNE DIRT ACCUMULATES AND SHOULD, FROM TIME TO TIME, BE CLEANED AS DESCRIBED BELOW. IN AREAS WHERE THE CONCENTRATION OF POLLUTANTS IS HIGH, OR WHERE THERE IS EXCESSIVE AIR-BORNE DIRT, WASHINGS WILL BE REQUIRED MORE FREQUENTLY. ABRASIVE CLEANERS, SOLVENTS OR PAINT REMOVERS SHOULD NEVER BE USED FOR CLEANING.
CLEAN FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP
TO MINIMIZE STREAKING. AFTER CLEANING,
RINSE THOROUGHLY WITH CLEAR WATER.
GENERAL CLEANING
NORMAL AIR-BORNE DIRT MAY BE REMOVED WITH A GARDEN HOSE AND A SOFT BRUSH SIMILAR TO THOSE USED FOR WASHING CARS. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF PRESSURE WASHERS. IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO USE A MILD DISH DETERGENT AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT CONTAIN LEMON.
EXCESSIVE AIR-BORNE DIRT OR HIGH POLLUTION
A COMMON HOUSEHOLD DETERGENT (for example 1/3 cup of Tide with 1 gallon of warm water) APPLIED WITH A SOFT BRUSH OR CLOTH WILL REMOVE THIS EXCESSIVE MATERIAL.
MAJOR ACCUMULATIONS OF DIRT OR CONCENTRATION OF POLLUTANTS
TO ONE GALLON OF WATER, ADD THE FOLLOWING:
1/3 cup of household detergent
2/3 cup Tri Sodium Phosphate (available in hardware or other outlets under various names)*
1 quart 5% “Sodium Hypochlorite” (for example, Clorox)*
*CAUTION: Greater concentrations of these may cause damage to the paint finish.
